Late 17th century house with 18th century additions. The most evocative 'upstairs downstairs' house in Britain. A range of outbuildings includes kitchen, laundry, bake house, stables, sawmill, smithy and joiners shop, while state rooms, display most of the original 18th and 19th century furniture and furnishings. A magnificent marcher fortress completed in 1310 and now a stately home of grand style with elegant state rooms and elaborate plasterwork, superb Adam style furniture, tapestries and portraits. The castle has six acres of gardens, with roses, flowering shrubs, Rhododendrons, Azaleas, rockery and Yew topiary. The castle and gardens are set in 500 acres of 18th century parkland with three concessionaire walks across the park. The elaborate entrance gates were made by the Davies Brothers, renowned blacksmiths of Bersham. |

The railway operates steam and vintage diesel hauled services along a restored section of the Ruabon - Barmouth line.
