The Cross Lanes Hotel is perfectly situated for holiday breaks. It's location in extensive gardens and grounds provides a peaceful and relaxing base and easy access to all the area has to offer. Being situated in Wales but close to the borders with Cheshire and Shropshire, a wide range of attractions and varies countryside are readily accessible.
Bangor-on-Dee, with its stone bridge over the River Dee and historic church is just a couple of miles away and a good starting point for a tour of the immediate area. There is a tourist information point at J Johnson and Son Furniture Showrooms. This long standing family business is a tourist attraction in itself, with a basket weaving tradition of over 150 years and still going strong!

Erddig - Wrexham
Late 17th century house with 18th century additions. The most evocative 'upstairs downstairs' house in Britain. A range of outbuildings includes kitchen, laundry, bake house, stables, sawmill, smithy and joiners shop, while state rooms, display most of the original 18th and 19th century furniture and furnishings. A large walled garden restored to its 18th century formal design. Country park opens daily from dawn to dusk.
Wrexham Water World
Wrexham Waterworld Leisure and Activity Centre is the leading Aquatic and Activity Centre in the town. You can't really miss it if you drive around the town centre; its futuristic parabolic roof is one of the landmarks of Wrexham.
Alyn Waters Country Park
The largest country park in the Wrexham area, Alyn Waters is situated in the beautiful Alyn Valley. Woodland, grassland and riverside walks are all clearly marked and there is a visitor centre that includes a cafe, shop and exhibitions on the history and wildlife of the park. There is an exciting programme of events and activities, for children and adults.
Plas Madoc Leisure Centre - Acrefair, Wrexham
Partner to Wrexham Waterworld, Plas Madoc Leisure Centre deserves its reputation as "The Best Leisure Centre in North Wales". The Tropical Lagoon Leisure Pool at Plas Madoc is the perfect pool to relax in. Where else in Wales can you walk along Paradise Beach in the bubbling surf set amongst tropical plants and palm trees? Plas Madoc's Tropical Lagoon has all this and more, with slides and a wave machine to add to the fun. The Leisure Centre also boasts a fully equipped fitness suite, health suite and squash courts while the children can enjoy the Tropical Playground Soft Play Area (fully supervised) before sampling the cafeteria.
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct - Trefor (between Wrexham and Llangollen)
Built in 1805, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is the largest in Britain and carries the Llangollen canal 126ft above the River Dee. It's not for the faint hearted, but you can walk across or even experience a trip over the Aqueduct either by narrowboat and experience the illusion of flying on water!
Ty Mawr Country Park - Cefn Mawr, Wrexham
A traditional country farm situated in the beautiful River Dee Valley. Ideal for children, with lots of animals to meet, including donkeys, pigs, and goats. Feed our free range chickens and ducks. Lawrence the Llama guards our sheep from foxes!
Llangollen Wharf
It's a rare treat to take a horse drawn boat trip at Llangollen. Boats leave hourly, taking passengers on a magical trip into mountains, along the beautiful Llangollen Canal. And on your return, there's a welcoming cup of tea at the Wharf Cafe. Group organisers will appreciate our package with other ventures and activities for a complete day out. The licensed Wharf Grill is open daily.
Llangollen Railway
The railway operates steam and vintage diesel hauled services along a restored section of the Ruabon - Barmouth line. Visit our newly opened beautifully restored country station at Carrog at the end of eight miles of stunning scenic journey. Trains run daily from the beginning of May to the end of October and on weekends and school holidays throughout the year. Try our luxury Pullman Dining Train, "Friends of Thomas" weeks, Santa specials, drive-a- steam engine courses and many special theme weekends for unbeatable fun for the family.
Chirk Castle
A magnificent Marcher fortress completed in 1310 and now a stately home of grand style with elegant state rooms and elaborate plasterwork, superb Adam style furniture, tapestries and portraits. The castle has six acres of gardens, with roses, flowering shrubs, Rhododendrons, Azaleas, rockery and Yew topiary. The castle and gardens are set in 500 acres of 18th century parkland with three concessionaire walks across the park. The elaborate entrance gates were made by the Davies Brothers, renowned blacksmiths of Bersham.
Park Hall - Oswestry
Park Hall near Oswestry in Shropshire is one of the region’s most exciting family visitor attractions. A popular destination for young and old alike. Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse
Racing has been taking place over the jumps at Bangor on Dee Racecourse since 1859 and has always attracted the leading jump jockeys.
Chester Racecourse
The sister racecourse to Bangor-on-Dee, providing exciting and glamorous flat racing throughout the Summer season. Chester is the oldest racecourse in Britain, the first officially recorded horse race being held here in 1539. At just over a mile around, it is also the shortest.
Golf Courses and Ranges
There are ten golf courses within a 20 minute drive of the Cross Lanes. The closest are Wrexham Golf Club, Carden Park Golf Club, Clays Golf Centre, Plassey Oaks Golf Complex, Darland Golf Course and Fore Golf Driving Range are all within ten miles of the hotel.

Tennis
Wrexham boasts an excellent tennis facility, the North Wales Regional Tennis Centre, which has six Indoor Acrylic Courts and ten Outdoor Acrylic Courts.
The Centre regularly hosts international competitions, including the 'Challenger' Series. The Tennis Centre is also home to the Wrexham Lawn Tennis Association.
